Publication Ethics and Editorial Policy

The journal “Mechanics and Mathematical Methods” is a peer-reviewed scientific publication that publishes original and relevant research results in mathematics. The editorial policy and ethical standards of the publication are based on the principles of academic integrity, transparency of editorial processes, responsibility for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine, in particular taking into account the innovations approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 56 dated January 19, 2026.

The journal policy is aimed at preventing unethical publication practices (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, falsification, fabrication, improper authorship and other violations of academic integrity), in accordance with general principles and rules recognized in the scientific community and provided by legislation and recommendations of international organizations.

The fundamental basis for the development of publication ethics is the materials of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), in particular the Guidelines on Good Publication Practice .

Another important COPE document in the formation of publication ethics is the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing .

Principles of Ethical Policy
  1. Organization of the editorial and publishing process. The editorial board is responsible for ensuring honesty, objectivity and transparency at all stages of consideration, peer review and publication of materials, including through systematic verification for compliance with academic integrity standards.
  2. Compliance with legislation and international standards. The editorial policy takes into account the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine regarding academic integrity, as well as recommendations of leading international organizations (in particular COPE).
  3. Prevention of unethical practices. The journal does not allow plagiarism, data falsification, improper attribution of authorship, etc., and also provides mechanisms for responding to detected violations in accordance with the procedures defined by the editorial board and the Ministry of Education and Science.
Open Access and FAIR Principles FAIR

The journal adheres to international open access initiatives, in particular:

All materials of the journal are freely available to readers and their institutions. Users are allowed to freely read, download, copy, distribute, print and use articles for any other lawful purposes provided proper citation.

The editorial board supports transparency of research data and methodology, emphasizing the importance of the reproducibility of scientific results.

The journal encourages responsible management of research data in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). Authors are recommended to provide open access to research data, as well as to use generally recognized repositories for storage and dissemination of data.

AI Usage Policy

The journal “Mechanics and Mathematical Methods” recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in facilitating scientific activity, while emphasizing the importance of adherence to academic integrity, author responsibility and transparency in the use of AI.

Artificial intelligence is defined as a set of technologies that allows systems to perform tasks that usually require human intelligence (text generation, translation, data analysis, etc.).

Authors may use AI tools only as auxiliary means during manuscript preparation, in particular for:

  • checking spelling, grammar, and punctuation;
  • searching scientific literature and verifying the correctness of bibliographic references;
  • structuring the text.

The use of AI is prohibited for:

  • full generation of texts without authorial editing;
  • creation of fictitious references or falsification of data;
  • automated peer review without human expertise.

All scientific statements, conclusions and references must be carefully verified by the authors. Responsibility for reliability, originality and compliance with academic standards lies with the authors.

Authors are obliged to declare the use of AI in the corresponding section of the manuscript, indicating which tool was used and for what purposes.

When submitting materials for peer review, the editorial board reserves the right to clarify information about the use of AI.

The use of AI must not contradict the principles of scientific integrity, academic ethics and copyright.

AI cannot be indicated as a co-author, as it does not bear legal or ethical responsibility.

In case of detection of violations related to unethical or non-transparent use of AI, the editorial board reserves the right to:

  • require explanation or correction;
  • reject the article;
  • inform the author’s affiliation about such violations.
Retraction of Published Articles

Retraction of a published article may be initiated by:

  • the authors;
  • the editorial board of the journal;
  • readers;
  • authorized persons or organizations.

In case of receiving information about a possible violation of publication ethics or publication rules, the editorial board acts in accordance with COPE (Retraction Guidelines).

Grounds for retraction of an article:
  • establishing the fact of plagiarism or improper borrowing of data;
  • detection of significant errors that make the presented results unreliable;
  • duplicate publication without proper reference to previous work;
  • falsification or fabrication of data;
  • failure to disclose a conflict of interest that affects the interpretation of results;
  • violation of ethical standards during research.
Retraction procedure
  1. The initiator submits a written request (in paper or electronic form) with justification for the reasons for retraction and evidence supporting the necessity of this decision.
  2. The Editor-in-Chief reviews the application within 10 working days and forms a commission of three members of the editorial board.
  3. The commission conducts an analysis of the submitted information.
  4. The author is given the opportunity to express their position or provide additional explanations.
  5. The term for consideration of the application by the commission shall not exceed 30 calendar days.
The commission’s decision may include:
  • rejection of the request for retraction;
  • the requirement for the authors to make corrections with a corresponding notice in the journal;
  • full retraction of the article.

In case of a decision to retract:

  • the article in the electronic version of the collection is marked as “retracted”;
  • a notice of retraction is published indicating the reasons and a link to the original;
  • information regarding the retraction is published in the next issue of the journal;
  • the article remains in the archive with an appropriate label/designation;
  • the authors of the article are notified of the retraction.
Authors' rights

Authors have the right to:

  • receive a copy of the commission's final decision;
  • appeal the retraction decision;
  • publish a response regarding the decision as part of the formal notice on the journal’s website.

The appeal is considered by the Editor-in-Chief within 20 calendar days.

Procedure for Handling Complaints Regarding Violations of Academic Integrity and Publication Ethics

For any questions or complaints related to publication in the journal “Mechanics and Mathematical Methods”, please contact the editorial office via email mmm@odaba.edu.ua.

Within 5 working days, the editorial board will review the request and analyze the complaint in accordance with COPE guidelines to assess whether proper procedures have been followed. The editorial board reviews the submission history, correspondence between the Author(s), the Editor-in-Chief and the Reviewers, and may contact the relevant parties for additional information.

The Author(s) will receive written confirmation of the results of the complaint review results. The journal aims to resolve issues promptly within six weeks, although some cases may take longer depending on the nature of the issue.

In the interests of a fair and impartial process, the Editorial Board asks those raising concerns or complaints to allow the process to be completed before making public statements on the matter.

Complaints about publications

All complaints are considered confidentially in accordance with COPE guidelines, regardless of their status or identification of the complainant. The review of published content is carried out jointly by the Author(s) and the Journal. The editorial board may contact third parties, such as independent experts, authors’ institutions or funding organizations, in compliance with GDPR regulations.

“Mechanics and Mathematical Methods” strives to maintain the anonymity of the complainant to the fullest extent possible, understanding that some complaints may reveal the identity of the person who raised the concern. After completing the review of the complaint and determining the appropriate measures, the Editorial Board will provide reports to all complainants.
